two blankets for the new little. first, his handspun one. one skein of my snapdragon worsted, 8ish ounces of handspun falkland, dyed in top form by a good friend, and something like cascade 220 for the edging. raveled here.
second, one snuggly. he will have 3 snugglies in all. his brother has three. his is the target looking one, the other belongs to m.
and here’s a pic of me at 36 weeks, 2 days… taken in a very dirty mirror.

sharon’s mitts and hat
when a good friend turned 40 this year, i knew she needed something special. that is when i stole a skein of handspun she bought from me and knit these for her. i didn’t think she’d get around to doing it for quite a while otherwise ;)
i’ve always wanted to make these mittens by Elizabeth Zimmermann, because they look so awesome in handspun. so this seemed like a good time (ahem, excuse) to do so. raveled here.
then i had some yarn left, so i figured she needed a hat. i was tempted to make a reflection hat because they look so good in handspun, but no. couldn’t do that. instead i made her this tree hat. i’m thinking about writing up the pattern… we’ll see if i get around to it before the babe is born. raveled here.
and here it is on her head.
more small things
same bootee pattern as here. easily memorized, super portable, and addictive is what i dub these ones. i made up the hats.

blue green addabootees made out of my hand dyed chard light and snapdragon sport – raveled here
i might keep one more set or the just bootees for my wee babe and the rest will be baby gifts for the next round of winter babies.
handspun addabootees and hat
so… we are having a small project knit along over in the due in april group on ravlery and these are my first finished knit. it took me a couple of bootees to figure out the sizing, but these are down sized Elizabeth Zimmermann addabootees, using size 4 needles with sportish weight yarn, but also made a bit shorter.
aren’t they so flipping adorable? i can’t get over them. on ravelry here.
a completely enjoyable knit. this new babe in my belly will only be wearing them for 2 months at most, but still. how could you not knit these? having only had a summer baby i really missed out on all the little little things, knitwise.
these are made from some handspun singles i’ve had lying around for a long while. i had enough handspun left to make a wee hat too (here on rav). and although i am notoriously not matchy matchy, i guess these might be okay since one is on his head and one is on his feet. now i’m thinking of tiny projects that i can make with other small amounts of handspun… and pondering making more pairs of bootees.
Pacific Tomten
I finally finished this one! There really was no need until it actually fit him, which is now.
The handspun yarn is an early falkland fiber club colorway and the dark brown is some recycled sweater wool that I’ve used in a gazillion projects. Most useful color ever.
Elizabeth Zimmermann’s Tomten Pattern
Love that hood! Unfortunately he does not. hee hee.
p.s. here’s the latest newsletter if you’d like to read it.
m’s new hat
brrr. it’s cold outside! and m didn’t have any hats that fit him, so i whipped this one up. my handspun, mohair and targhee (i think), dyed for farm wool fiber club, back when that still existed. i’m going to make a pattern out of this one in multiple gauges – dk to bulky, i think. it’ll be a great hat pattern for handspun.
i’m going to use the rest of this ball to make ben a hat. i’ll offer an option for a non-pointy top… but here’s a better view of the pointy top. ben’s will be a beanie.
finished handspun
just some eye candy. i’ve spun 2 more skeins since, and now i’m distracted by Indie Knit and Spin and by delivering all of the stripey little sweaters and dresses to new little babes.
niddy noddy
i found the missing piece! and, clearly, i spun more, although they all still need a bath. i’m spinning at a similar rate to back when i used to sell a lot of handspun.
left – farm wool fiber club, maybe mohair blend? – aran weight
right – falkland, sport or dk
and it is so much fun. can’t wait to knit with some of it. and maybe i’ll have some out for indie knit and spin come november.
left – falkland scraps – bulky
right – batts i made quite a while ago, mostly falkland – aran weight
and also, alas. we are going on vacation, so this is the end of the spinning spree for now. also, the shop is closed for 3 weeks. hope i remember to keep spinning when i get back!
sparkly tassel hat!
aka sea foam hat. i love this hat. i have always loved this hat. i’m so pleased it never sold!! here is a modeled shot of how it fits my little guy.
handspun, hand dyed yarn, and some commercial yarn in the giant tassel. happy making, i say. happy making. raveled here.
mom’s brussels sprout mitts
at my mom’s request, she got some brussels sprout mitts for christmas this year
made from my handspun (a fiber club colorway…) and some commercial wool. raveled here.
and my brother got this hat you already saw. i’m working on a couple more hats for some more boys, but i’ll show those when i’m done. overall, not too much knitting this year! i’ve mostly been dyeing this week (see the few pics i took over here in the facebook group) and have spent most of vacation busting out some patterns. one baby vest almost ready to publish, one mitten/fingerless mitt pattern and a baby dress pattern with testers! not to mention the lace shawl that got stuck in test knitting this summer :/ guess i should do something about that one.
i have in progress 2 colorwork mitten patterns, one colorwork hat pattern, 1 small sweater (also to be sized up with larger yarn to bigger sizes for all of my friends’ older boy children), another baby vest, and a little dress like coverup. i’ll show pics of the dress/cardi thing and the baby vest shortly. can’t show you everything all at once ;) and who knows how much i’ll really get done once ben goes back to work. so there you have it.
i’ll try to get some photos of the new yarns for you to look at soon. last dye day for quite a while is monday! i’m grabbing everything undyed i can get my hands on.
happy new year! xoxo cosy
