good thing

i started that sale right on time!  because winter dorian made his showing only a day after his birth month began.

and the sale continues, by the way, through his whole birth month… until the 18th of April.  Enjoy the patterns!  More baby in knits pics to come, I’m sure.

excuses, excuses

so i have three good excuses for not being here for almost a month.

1) i am knitting! i finished a sweater. other things in progress including a vest and sweater for M, and this summer’s shawl which i still haven’t finished.

2) indie knit and spin. vendor searching, vendor accepting. it is expanding this year, so it’s taking a bit more work.

3) and lastly, the first trimester of a new pregnancy. baby building is hard… especially with a teethy 2 year old who no longer naps.

notes about the sweater:
on ravelry here.

this sweater would have fit much much better if i had actually finished it back in 2010 before i got pregnant with m. instead, my body has changed shape and i could have used to go up at least one size. i moved the buttons down so they didn’t choke me and i think it may be quite cute with my pregnant belly sticking out of it… or if not cute, at least it will still fit since it only has the 3 buttons.

i’ll also be publishing a pattern tomorrow!  woohoo.

grandmama made

it’s my estimated due date! but i’m pretty certain there will be no babe today – which is fine. it will come some time. in the meantime, i’m still sorting through things and getting things ready, pulling out the little little things.

recycled wool soakers

yesterday i lanolized some soakers for the first time, including these two recycled sweater ones that my mom made.  note the animal type shape on the butt of the one. i think she couldn’t decide what she wanted it to be, so left it vague.  she was also having a hard time finding sweaters where she lives, so i sent her a box full… and so in the winter expect more of these cuties!  and hopefully some little felted wool pants.

knit taggy blanket

some time last week i sorted stuff by somewhat age appropriateness (or what i guessed to be age appropriate…) and found this little taggy blanket my mom made.  the front is handknit cotton and the back is lined in cotton fabric.  i’m pretty sure she stole the tags off of a not very good shape blanket she found at the thrift store.  and that, my friends, is where my thriftiness comes from.  anyhow, i love it and it will be one of the first things the babe will get.

more small things to come tomorrow!

p.s. i have 2 weeks to have this baby and you have 2 weeks to take advantage of the birth month pattern sale!  don’t forget :)

32 weeks!

and i had to show off my new t-shirt. i’d been lusting after this shirt for a while, but wasn’t going to buy it. and then, she was at handmade arcade and i couldn’t spend all day in the same room with this tee and not be wearing it.

could not resist.

so i bought it and immediately put it on :D it makes me happy and cracked people at the craft fair up… although the non-crafty folk i know don’t seem to really get it.

32 weeks!

and with 32 weeks, i am certainly bigger! and i can’t knit too much now. i’ve some carpal tunnel symptoms (effects 25% of pregnant women), which should go away post birthing when the hormones get back to normal. sadly, it will make this blog a bit boring for the next month or two, but so be it. there should be plenty of dyeing to show you and i’m planning a couple of give-aways.

the not knitting is a bit tortuous.  these have been on the coffee table waiting for me and the longer they sit there together the more i want to knit them together.  which i’m not allowed to do.  we’ll see if i can resist. we’re lucky i don’t know the sex, or i’d be trying to knit them into a blanket or something.  as it is, i’m being good.

i want to knit.

hedgehogs!

i remember when i was young, there was always a hedgehog stuffed animal somewhere in the front of my mom’s car.  due to said hedgehog(s), i was inspired this year to make some hedgehog gifts.

hedgehogs!

this big football shaped one is for my mom. hand dyed recycled sweater wool. the pattern is ysolda teague’s smith. i think the babe might need one of these, if for no other reason just because it will be almost as big as the baby itself.  also, these are totally my mom’s colors.  raveled here.

hedgehogs!

the smaller guy, for katie, is from this pattern. so cute! the main body of this one is also hand dyed recycled sweater wool. raveled here.

hedgehogs!

and the turtle was originally blogged here.  but now with eyes!  i found subtle eyes looked much better than high contrast ones.

i also sent each of our mom’s a skein of my snapdragon worsted.

and for added cuteness: baby foot! have a great weekend :)

christmas hats

since none of the younger men in our families would ever consider going to this blog, i think it’s safe to show these before i mail them off.  you’ll have to wait for the parent’s presents until they get them though.

the first two hats are for my brother
i made this one up

i was thinking these decreases might be fun and new, but to me they look almost sewn like a store bought hat. it makes me laugh, but looks fine. on ravelry here.

and a botanic. i’ll use this fun pattern again, maybe for a hat for my dad.  ben probably needs one too.

this one came out a bit tight, so i sprayed it with water and made ben wear it around to block it out a bit. it worked very well. on ravelry here.

and lastly, one for ben’s brother in AK – the crossbow hat. this pattern will hopefully be published soon, but i’ve got to get this version off.

he actually wears a hat i made him before a lot, but it wasn’t quite warm enough for 40 below! or so he claimed. so i used ultra alpaca in this one to make it warmer. hope he likes it.  on ravelry here.

now, it is fiber arts saturday over here and a whole wack of knitters and spinners will be showing up this afternoon, so i must be off to make squash soup and tidy things up.  have a great weekend!

p.s. yesterday i hit the halfway point in my pregnancy. if you’d like to see the most recent pic of the belly, it’s here. if you’d like to compare it to 12 and 16 weeks, that set is here. i’ve become much much more round in the last two weeks!  i also felt the baby 2 days ago.  so fun.
